Dozens of homeless people who have been living in crisis accommodation in a former motel are to be kicked out after increased protests by villagers.
Tendring councillors have decided the one-time motel at Thorrington must resort to its old use or something more acceptable following a rash of complaints.
The council maintained it had received 'significant written evidence of anti-social behaviour causing disruption and harm'.
The harm identified included matters such as thefts, verbal and physical abuse, litter, drugs, graffiti and 'genuine fear.'
And last night members of the council's development control committee voted not to allow the temporary use of the ex-Silverwoods motel to house 'disadvantaged persons' to continue on a permanent basis.
A report to the councillors said it found the weight of evidence from the local population compelling.
