Arnhem veteran and ex-paratrooper Bill Bloys has had his wish of revisiting the scene of the wartime battle granted thanks to the lottery.
Mr Bloys, 80, of Frinton, has been back to the Dutch town several times already but had been hoping to attend the 60th anniversary celebrations in September.
He said it would be an emotional visit: "I will weep for my lost friends and for the magnificent Dutch people."
Mr Bloys, of Elm Tree Avenue, who was a member of the 2nd Parachute Battalion, has been awarded a grant towards travel costs for the trip with his wife and carer.
The lottery's Heroes Return Fund has so far helped 819 veterans, widows, spouses and carers to revisit Second World War battlefields.
