One of mid Essex's top tourist attractions opens this weekend.

Visitors will once again be able to take on the great maize maze challenge at the Blake House Craft Centre at Blake End.

It is now in its sixth year and has attracted thousands of people eager to solve the larger than life-sized puzzle.

It is carved out of a ten-acre maize field, grown from more than half a million individual maize and sunflower seeds. Each year the actual puzzle is redesigned by master of the maze David Partridge.

The puzzle covers more than five miles of pathways and the whole family is welcome to have a go, including those in wheelchairs and buggies. Despite its size there is no chance of actually losing anyone, thanks to a viewing platform with telescopes and a "lost souls" escape map for those in real trouble.

The maze, signposted off the A120, is open for the summer season from tomorrow until September 12 between 10am and 5pm daily. Entrance is £4 adults and £2.50 for accompanied children under 14 and seniors.
