Fly-tippers who dumped two tonnes of roofing material, including hazardous asbestos, next to coastal marshland have been condemned.
An urgent investigation has been launched by the Environment Agency to find those responsible.
The waste was spotted by a passer-by in a lay-by on the road between Great Holland and Holland-on-Sea, a popular spot with fly-tippers.
Agency officer John Parish said: "This type of environmental vandalism is deplored by the agency, so if anyone has any information on this or any other fly-tipping we would appreciate their call."
Anyone who might be able to help is asked to contact the agency on its emergency hotline number 0800 807060
