Maternity services are set to reviewed by hospital bosses after pressure from councillors and a campaign to keep a Braintree unit open 24 hours a day.

Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust has announced it has decided to commission an independent review of maternity services across the region.

The decision follows a campaign by mums and residents to make William Julien Courtauld (WJC) Hospital in London Road, Braintree, open around the clock.

A demonstration was held last month in response to an incident when mother-to-be Raz Mack of Silver End gave birth at WJC's car park when she could not get into the locked unit in the early hours of the morning.
