Fears have been raised that elderly villagers will be left stranded when their village shop is closed for refurbishment following a takeover.
The One Stop shop in the High Street, Thorpe, is set to be converted into a Tesco Metro from next month.
But Thorpe Parish Council claims that with the changeover, it will be closing its doors for a month and this will affect elderly people who rely on it.
Chairman Brian Healey and councillor Pat Holt said they had heard from a number of elderly people who were concerned how they will cope as they have no transport.
Mrs Holt said: "From talking to them, they are particularly concerned about where they will buy their fruit and veg."
