A former motel which has been used for crisis accommodation for the homeless and asylum seekers is set to be shut down following increased protests from villagers.
Residents at Thorrington claim they have suffered thefts, abuse, vandalism and intimidation from people staying at the former Silverwoods motel.
The building was given the go-ahead to house "disadvantaged" people for two years. Now the owners want to make it permanent.
Tendring Council says it had given the temporary go-ahead to gauge villagers' reaction. But instead of shrinking, complaints have grown.
Now council planning officers are recommending the bid for a permanent permission is refused and an enforcement notice issued to close it down.
A 46-name petition and 30 letters have been sent in from objectors. Protesters claim problems started after the motel business closed.
Tendring councillors are due to rule on the site's immediate future today.
