Residents are calling for road calming measures after two accidents in a week at the same busy junction.

Barbara Refeigh, of Victoria Road, Southend, said she wanted action taken to prevent the junction of her road with Northumberland Avenue turning into an accident blackspot.

She said: "This was the second accident in a week.

"Cars speed around this area, it is used as a rat run and they don't always stop for each other at this junction. There are signs, but they are not that good or they are ignored and drivers just jump the junction.

"Late at night a lot of these cruisers use this area to turn around. There are always a lot of speeding cars. There have been so many accidents here and most of them seem to happen in the same way."

Mrs Refeigh said the problems started when the road was altered.

In the most recent collision, a Fiat Stilo and Toyota Corolla smashed in to one another about 3.30pm on Friday.
