Shops in a Braintree town centre precinct are to start opening on Sundays.
From September 5, stores in George Yard will be following national trends and trading on Sundays.
About half are expected to open their doors at first and it is hoped many others will follow.
Already, some shops open in other parts of the town centre and The Edinburgh Woollen Mill in Bank Street will be joining them in September.
Centre manager Brenda Baker said it was mainly the larger stores which would be in at the start.
She said: "I am sure over a period of time the vast majority will be regularly opening on Sundays. It's like a snowball. You start with a core and others join as they see there are enough people coming in to make it worthwhile."
