The new chief executive for Basildon is being chosen by councillors this week.
The existing Basildon Council chief executive, John Robb, is retiring later this year and a panel of councillors will interview possible replacements on Thursday night.
However, the title chief executive is being scrapped and replaced with the title of managing director. The administration believes that it sounds more business-like.
The decision will probably be announced at the beginning of next week.
