Emergency services went on red alert today as an eight-seater plane prepared for an crash landing at Southend Airport.
The twin-engined plane alerted the control tower that it would be making an emergency landing after an apparent malfunction in the plane's landing gear.
Firefighters were placed on standby and Eastwoodbury Lane was closed to traffic as the plane made its approach to the runway. It eventually made a safe landing.
Plane spotter John Melton, 63, from Cheshunt, Herts, watched the drama unfold.
He said: "I saw the plane circling with just one wheel down. The second wheel came down at the very last second. It was real high drama."
