A toast is set to be made to one of Tendring's founding fathers.

The organisers of the Harwich and Dovercourt Bay Winter Ale Festival have managed to get hold of a special beverage for a landmark day.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary opening of the Manningtree to Harwich railway branch line on August 15, they will be launching a beer with many local connections - Bruff's Bitter.

Its namesake was engineer Peter Schulyer Bruff, who is known to more than the odd railway buff as the engineer and entrepreneur who built most of the railway line from London to Ipswich.

Festival organisers who are all members of the Colchester and North East Essex branch of the Campaign for Real Ale teamed up with the Humpty Dumpty Brewery of Reedham in Norfolk
