Chelmsford Police have assured residents that an initiative to tackle alcohol-related crime will continue throughout the summer.

The news comes as the Government leaves the division out of an eight week blitz on alcohol-related violence and disorder across the country.

In Chelmsford Operation Might has been running since June 11 and involves high visibility policing in the town centre at weekends and regular meetings with licensees.

Officers patrol problem areas, such as the riverside, on either a Thursday, Friday or Saturday each week and visit nightclubs and bars.

Chelmsford licensing officer Martin Reed said the operation is set to continue until the end of September: He said: 'All the licensees in the town centre are fully aware of it and we have Pub Link meetings every six weeks. They are all fully supportive of targeting anti-social behaviour.'
