The 28-year-old, from South View, Benfleet, is to spend six months in Calcutta, working without pay, for an organisation battling to improve the quality of life for the area's disadvantaged.
But charity worker Clare has to raise £2,500 in the next three months if her plans are to take off.
Clare said: "I will be working as an assistant administrator for Calcutta Rescue - a non-government organisation. I will be a co-ordinator for Calcutta Rescue's four medical centres but my jobs will include maintaining communication between the Calcutta office and the 11 international support groups."
