Playing pitches in Basildon could be improved or closed as part of a ten-year strategy to make the most of sports facilities.
Councillors have approved a ten-year action plan, which looks at pitches for football, rugby, cricket, hockey, American football, netball, tennis and bowls. Basildon Council intends to improve most pitches.
Some are losing money and keep getting vandalised - such as Barn Hall in Nevendon Road - and could be shut down.
As part of the strategy, the synthetic tracks at Gloucester Park, Basildon, and Hannakins Farm, Billericay, could be replaced and a new one built at a school in Wickford.
Improvements are also likely at the recreation grounds in Wickford and Eversley, Pitsea.
