Southend AC youngsters performed outstandingly in the UK Young Athletes League at New-ham. They beat their hosts and only had to give second best to Tonbridge AC.
With virtually every event covered on this occasion, much to the delight of the team managers, whose recent despair has been evident, the Southend squad was assured of a good tally by the end of the day.
Personal bests were falling all over the place.
It was good to see family ties running through the club as Emily-Jane Girvan is the niece of former Irish International hammer thrower Martin Girvan, who competed for Southend 30 years ago.
Under-13 Adam McCarthy had a great afternoon, collecting scalps in the 100, 200 and long jump (14.6/29.9/4.19m).
In the men's under-17 squad Simon Hemmings scored maximum points and enjoyed a hat-trick of wins in the 100m hurdles (15.0), high jump (1.85) and long jump (5.36), while Tristan Davison cleaned up in the shot (12.50m) and discus (34.91m).
