Sports facilities in Promenade Park will be improved if a deal can be struck between Maldon District Council and Maldon Tennis Club.
Membership at the tennis club has soared to 60 people, of which 29 train regularly, since it began two years ago and the club now wants to lease all four courts in Promenade park - two of which house the skateboarding and basketball facilities.
If the council's Community Services Committee agrees to the club's new plans, the skatepark could be included in the redevelopment of the valley area at Promenade Park and skating facilities may even be expanded.
In return for the lease, should councillors agree, the tennis club proposes to re-surface the two courts containing the skateboard and basketball equipment at a cost of between £10,000 and £15,000.
Two of the four tennis courts were resurfaced last year when the club and the council agreed to split the cost, each paying £5,000.
In return, a legal agreement was drawn up, giving the club guaranteed use of those two courts for set periods during the next five years.
The Community Services Committee meets on July 13, where a decision on the lease could be made
