A young woman was left fighting for her life after she was thrown from a motorbike when it collided with a car.
The 25-year-old woman, from the Billericay area, was flown by air ambulance to Basildon Hospital suffering serious head injuries, a broken leg and fractures to both arms.
The accident happened on Canvey Way, Benfleet, at 11.10am on Saturday.
The road was shut in both directions for five hours, causing big tailbacks.
The woman was a pillion passenger on the motorbike which was travelling from Canvey towards Sadlers Farm when it collided with a car, thought to be joining the road from a lay-by.
