Traffic police are warning speeding motorists to think twice before using the new A120 road to try to break the speed limit.
Bocking traffic police have been monitoring the duelled road, which links the Braintree bypass to the M11, at its junction with Stansted Airport.
They have been using both marked and unmarked vehicles to try to catch out any motorists trying to see how quickly they can get from one end of the road to the other.
The road was officially opened on Friday and, in the first 48 hours, police officers dealt with seven speeding motorists.
Det Con Danny Morton, of Bocking traffic police, said: "We have been keeping a careful eye on the A120, monitoring the speeds of the vehicles using it, and have already picked up a few speeding."
Traffic police have come to expect speeding on new stretches of road. When the A131 Great Leighs bypass was built, a motorist was caught speeding in excess of 100 mph a few hours after it was built.
