Essex return to the Twenty20 Cup trail at Southgate tonight seeking the win which will keep them firmly on course for the trophy.

Victory against Middlesex will guarantee them a place in the quarter-finals and also keep them on track for a home draw.

A Chelmsford tie is the prize for Ronnie Irani and his players if they finish top of their Group. At the moment Surrey lead the way with seven points but Essex will join them if they return from Southgate triumphant.

Essex wind up their Group games with the visit of Sussex to Chelmsford on Thursday, while Surrey make the short trip to Lord's to face their London neighbours on the same day.
