A MAN has been jailed for kicking in the door of his former parner's home and threatening her with a knife. A court heard on Friday how Fay Barlow had the knife held to her throat after her former boyfriend forced his way into her Chelmsford home in May this year. At the time, 24-year-old Barry Lane was drunk, Chelmsford Crown Court heard. Lane, from Kennett Way, Chelmsford, admitted charges of criminal damage, affray and using violence to secure entry when he appeared in court for sentence and was jailed for six months. He was also told to pay £300 compensation for damage to the door and to Miss Barlow's mobile phone which was broken during the incident. The court heard Miss Barlow and Lane ended a relationship after four years but on May 20 this year, he went to where she worked and there was a row. Later the same night, Lane went to her flat, kicked the door in and threatened to kill Miss Barlow with a knife he held to her throat, Gareth Hughes, prosecuting, said. Lane admitted what he had done when he was arrested later, the court heard. Fiona Rutherford, mitigating, said it was a highly charged emotional situation for Lane, which was made worse by his drinking. He was now taking steps to cure his alcohol problem and had expressed genuine remorse over what he had done, Miss Rutherford said.
