Sarah Claxton is confident she can still clinch automatic qualification for the Olympic 100 metres hurdles - despite tearing a hamstring.

The Colchester girl suffered the slight injury at the European Cup in Poland, where she aimed to get the required 12.96 second time.

Claxton will now miss the next chance to reach it, at a Gateshead meeting on Sunday, but believes she will be ready to run at the Olympic trials in Manchester on July 10.

The 24-year-old said: "I felt really good in the warm-up and I knew I would probably run fast.

"I think most of the girls went under 13 seconds in the race so it would have been a good opportunity to get the automatic qualification time."

Claxton felt her hamstring tighten in a practice run before the race, but felt fine walking, then felt it again when she raced out of the blocks.

She knew she had to pull-up before the first hurdle. The Belgrave Harrier had an anti-inflammatory injection in her hamstring and had another one earlier this week.

Claxton will have a week and a half of treatment but hopes to start jogging tomorrow.
