Two of Britain's most respected young choirs will perform a special show in New York.
More than 40 youngsters from the Southend Boys' and Girls' Choirs will fly to America later this month for the concert at St Bartholomew's Church.
Rosemary Pennington and Roger Humphrey run the choirs. The church in which they will perform is close to the site of the World Trade Centre, which was destroyed in the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Rosemary said: "We were involved in the BBC Proms last year. We performed a special piece commissioned for the September 11 commemorations. It is a very emotive piece and we felt Ground Zero was something we wanted to see."
The show will be part of a two-week tour with 12 performances in Boston, Chicago and Niagara Falls.
Both choirs, drawn from schools across Southend, have built up strong reputations over the years.
