Crisis talks were today being held after taxis were banned from collecting revellers from a string of Southend nightclubs.
Southend Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association spoke out after drivers were stopped from driving up Herbert Grove between 9pm and 4am at weekends.
Council licensing officials said the move was designed to stop "flashpoints" where clubbers clash in the area.
The meeting was due to take place between drivers, nightclub owners, Southend Council and the police today.
An association spokesman said: "We have already told the council we are not happy about this.
"The council was adamant it would not change its mind, but we'll have to wait and see what happens."
Taxis must drive down Herbert Grove to reach Lucy Road, which is home to numerous nightclubs including Talk, Chameleon and Zinc.
