David McSweeney is still assessing his options ahead of the new season after leaving Southend United.

The Basildon born defender, 22, who was released from Roots Hall at the end of last campaign, has been training with Billericay Town, Crawley and Dagenham and Redbridge, but has yet to decide where his future lies.

"I've spoken to and trained with all three clubs, but have not really been offered anything yet," he said.

"I'm taking my time before making a decision, but I have a few options."

McSweeney spent more than six years with the Shrimpers after joining the coastal club at the age of 15 and working his way through the League Two side's youth system.

The youngster went on to make 91 first team appearances after being handed his debut by David Webb.

"I have good memories of my time with Blues," added McSweeney.

"I was there for quite a long time and it was disappointing it all had to come to an end.
