Two men have been banned from drinking in two towns and two villages after police had to use CS spray on them to calm them down.

Leon Boxall, 34, and Lee Downing, 24, are not allowed to enter pubs or clubs in Halstead, Castle Hedingham, Sible Hedingham or Haverhill after using abusive and threatening behaviour on June 4 in Halstead, Colchester Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.

The pair were arguing in Halstead about being thrown out of Scenarios nightclub and were warned by police before they were involved in an altercation, the court heard.

District Judge David Cooper issued anti-social behaviour orders for a period of three years each.

Both admitted the charges put before them.

Boxall, of Bailey Close in Haverhill, said: "It was a silly night and I apologise for it."

Downing, of Lamb Lane in Sible Hedingham, told the court: "Alcohol made me do it. I'm very sorry and I can guarantee it won't happen again."

Each man was fined £500 with costs of £70 each and warned they would get five years in prison if they breached the order.
