A crooked accountant, who cheated clients out of £500,000 and went on the run from prison, has died in Spain.
Colin Marco, 60, of Southchurch Boulevard, Thorpe Bay, fled the UK after being jailed for four years and ten months for swindling investors.
He was placed in Ford open prison in Sussex, but failed to return after being allowed home on leave last December.
He died of cancer in the Costa del Sol Hospital, Marbella, on Monday, June 28, but his identity wasn't confirmed until his body was flown to Southend Hospital for a forensic expert to examine his dental records.
Marco, who ran his business from Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff, admitted 28 charges of theft and deception. He also admitted failing to keep proper business records and two counts of skipping court bail.
