Pupils from Kents Hill Junior School in Benfleet spent the day visiting the council offices to find out what is involved in being a member of Castle Point Council.
They were able to sit in the main council chamber, where councillors debate important issues, and get a real feel for the job.
They were also given a talk by mayor Wendy Goodwin, who told them about her duties.
