The future is looking brighter for Great Bentley villagers after mobile phone giants Orange agreed to reconsider its plans.

The company had wanted to put up a mast overlooking the largest green in the country but villagers campaigned long and hard to put a halt to the plans, which were approved by Tendring Council.

They have suggested alternative sites for the mast.

Villagers called in their MP Bernard Jenkin and he has been in regular contact with the company in the hopes of persuading it to have a rethink.

He has now received a letter from Fraser Grant, director of infrastructure expansion at Orange, and it appears the message has got through loud and clear.

"In response to your specific request on behalf of constituents, I can confirm that we will agree to investigate these alternative sites in order to ascertain their technical suitability," wrote Mr Grant.
