A High Street bar has postponed its bid for a late-night licence after being branded Colchester's most violent pub.
The Wig and Pen was due to apply for the late-night extension at a licensing meeting last night.
But manager Ray Martin is putting the application on hold after a police report claimed the pub was fourth on a 'top ten' list of town centre troublespots, behind Colchester's three major nightclubs.
"The police have sent us a report of all the incidents that apparently have happened here. We want to have a look at that before we go ahead."
Colchester police had objected to the late licence because of the number of alleged incidents at the pub.
But Mr Martin, who said he was "gobsmacked" by the strength of the police objection, insists the report is wrong.
