Classrooms at a Braintree school are unusable after rainwater cascaded through ceilings following last night's torrential rain and high winds.
Flooding was reported in Braintree's Bradford Street, Rosemary Avenue, Skitts Hill, Broad Road, and the Old Deanery Residential Home on Deanery Hill and there was a burst water main in Panfield Lane
There was also flooding in Henry Dixon Road, Witham, Bradford Street, Braintree, Wethersfield Social Club and trees came down in The Street, Kelvedon.
Electricity cables came down in Rivenhall End, at the junction of Oak Road.
Ten classrooms are out of action at Notley High today following major damage to its maths and science block, after rain went through its flat roofs.
Assistant headteacher David Lee-Allan said the classrooms at the 1,200-pupil school in Notley Road had been sealed off.
"Water got through the ceilings and we are having to electricity test the classrooms."
Staff were re-arranging classroom schedules today and putting pupils in different rooms.
