A countryside action group has been awarded £300,000 to help rural communities.

The cash secures the future of a programme designed to help villages plan their future development.

The scheme is being run by the Rural Community Council of Essex (RCCE). Three workers are helping draw up parish plans and village design statements.

The RCCE announced the grant at yesterday's annual meeting when the winners of the Essex Village of the Year competition was also announced.

Director Nick Shuttleworth said the RCCE was committed to helping local communities with the problems they faced
