The children have been in Billericay for the past few weeks after being flown to England by the charities Billericay Link and the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline.

The Billericay Link, based at the Methodist church in Western Road, has arranged host families, helpers, minibus drivers and a full programme of activities for the children.

Organiser Janet Lee said the group had enjoyed their time in the area.

She said: "We have taken the children to London and also to Cambridge to see the sights, like the London Eye, which they have really enjoyed.

"We have also spent a lot of time doing various activities in Billericay, including a morning's painting at the Methodist church."

Many of the children have been severely affected by the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, when the crumbling nuclear reactor blew up, sending poisonous gas into the atmosphere.
