A new multi-million pound health centre of excellence is to be built in Clacton's Kennedy Way.

Health bosses met behind closed doors yesterday and decided it was the only viable site for the scheme which was given the green light last October.

The recommendation was made by Tendring Primary Care Trust's (PCT) professional executive committee and will be put to the full board on March 11.

But it is very unlikely it will not be given the ultimate go-ahead.

The Mill Group, which has won the contract to build the centre which will serve 20,000 patients across Great Clacton and Holland-on-Sea, had been asked to search for possible alternatives.

However, that exercise has proved fruitless and the PCT is only left with Kennedy Way.

A spokesman for the Trust said the Mill Group will have one last meeting with Tendring Council next week. But it is not expected to reveal any other possible options.
