A new £2.2 million adult education centre could be built in Witham
The cash has been set aside in Essex County Council's capital budget for 2004/05 but a location for the centre is yet to be decided.
A council source revealed that land between Stevens Road and Spinks Lane is heading the list of choices for where the centre could be built.
The area is a patchwork of land combined of sections owned by the county council, Braintree Council and The John Bramston School, so any decision to use the area is likely require negotiation and agreement between two or more parties.
Adult education in the town is scattered over several locations and it is thought the new centre will be a way to centralise adult education and improve facilities for students and tutors alike.
A county council spokeswoman said: "Funding for a new adult education centre has been approved but the location hasn't been decided."
