Development bosses have promised to protect wildlife on Canvey when they construct their multi-million pound business park.
The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) firmly believes it can create jobs for islanders as well as preserving wildlife on the site off Northwick Road.
EEDA chief executive David Marlow said: "The aim of the scheme is to work in harmony with the habitat."
EEDA, along with English Nature, has identified two thirds of the 55-acre site which will be turned into a nature reserve and therefore protecting the habitat, such as rare bees, orchids and beetles.
The other third will be filled with the park.
Conservationists are still concerned wildlife will be destroyed because the space earmarked is not adequate and will result in many species being killed because they will be disturbed.
