Members of a motorcycle sprinting club held at Beauchamps School in Wickford, are celebrating after a rider scooped the top place in a nationwide competition.
The six pupils took part in the championships organised by the National Sprinting Association and 13-year-old Lewis Wellington stormed home to become the British Junior Motorcycle Sprinting Champion.
Technology teacher, Gabriel Uttley, runs the club and said: "I am very proud of the team and you don't get many British champions around.
"This sport is brilliant for kids because it pushes them. One day they are going to have vehicles of their own and it teaches them about safety and about the mechanics."
