The newly enthroned Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Rev John Gladwin, was welcomed to west Essex at a special service held at St Thomas Church in Brentwood.

The service of welcome for the Bradwell Episcopal Area was conducted by the Bishop of Bradwell, Dr Laurie Green, alongside Bishop Gladwin.

Assistant curate at St Thomas', Father Ed Tomlinson, said: "It was well attended. The bishop was delighted with the service and our choir excelled itself."

This was the Bishop of Chelmsford's first official visit to Brentwood since his enthronement. The Bradwell episcopal area stretches from Chelmsford through Brentwood, Billericay and Wickford through to east London.

After Bishop Gladwin was introduced to the congregation the service looked at the different roles of the bishop within the diocese.
