South Woodham's languishing market is being thrown an inspirational lifeline in a bid to save it from disappearing altogether.
Every Thursday and Saturday, starting February 5, the market will double up as a boot sale site as well as a market.
Organisers hope the change will prompt a dramatic U-turn in the market's fortunes and that Market Square will once again be bustling with traders and shoppers.
"Over the last three years the market has really declined," said Alan Moore, who is helping to launch the project.
"It's just died a death with customers saying there aren't enough stalls, and stall holders saying there aren't enough customers.
"He hopes that vicious circle can now be broken by allowing shoppers to trade too."
Boot sale traders will be admitted from 7.30am on market days. Cars cost £6 and vans £10 on a first come, first served basis. For further details contact Alan Moore on 07815 862201.
