Pensioner power has won the day in a battle to make a dangerous bend safe.
Betty Becker, 91, left, found it was almost impossible for her and her friends from Great Mead retirement flats to cross busy Frobisher Way, in Shoebury, to the Asda supermarket and neighbouring shops.
She campaigned for nine years for a safer crossing and speed calming.
Today she was beaming with delight after Southend Council finally gave the green light to plans to install a pedestrian crossing and speed cushions.
