A babysitter who broke the left leg of a seven-week-old girl after using cannabis has been jailed for two years at Basildon Crown Court.
Anthony Hurst, 22, was under the influence of the drug while he was looking after the tot at her home in Balmoral Road, Westcliff.
The court heard as Hurst snatched the little girl from her Moses basket, her left foot became entangled in a handle, causing her to suffer a fractured thigh bone.
Hurst had been smoking cannabis when he agreed with the mother to look after the child, who is now in council care.
Hurst, of no fixed address, admitted causing grievous bodily harm and being in possession of cannabis.
He was given two years for grievous bodily harm and 28 days for the drug offence, the sentences to run concurrently.
