A major new £800,000 project will provide better customer services for residents across Tendring.
That's the promise from council bosses, who have given the go-ahead for state-of-the-art technology to be brought in to replace out-moded telephone networks.
The deal includes new computer systems for managing customer records and will enable staff to deal with council tax, business rates and housing benfits more quickly and efficiently.
It will also allow payments to be made by credit card over the telephone which will be later introduced on to the internet via Tendring Council's website. The project will become operational between April and July this year after a tender was accepted from BT to do the work.
Pierre Oxley, portfolio holder for benefits and revenues, which will be one of the main areas affected, welcomed the changes: "I am delighted with this scheme to improve our service to residents which will benefit the customer and council alike."
