Council bosses have said they are expected to keep on providing a welfare rights service for Braintree district.
The service was established by Braintree Council's previous Labour administration to help people from all backgrounds claim the benefits, tax allowances and grants they are entitled to.
But it is one of the areas of council activity the new Conservative executive has reviewed with a view to keeping down future council tax increases.
Graham Butland, Braintree Council's executive member for health and community, said: "To reduce costs, we've been looking at all aspects of the council's activities, one of which is welfare rights."
