A special needs school could close as part of a shake-up by education chiefs, it is feared.
Brian Lynch, the chairman of governors at Castledon School in Wickford, said a reorganisation of special needs education may lead to the school's closure.
In outlining the future of special needs schools, the Local Education Authority has suggested merging some schools - but there is no mention of the future of Castledon.
Special needs education is set to become part of the New Model Special School (NMSS) scheme - a project aimed at supporting those students with more severe and complex difficulties.
