Tendring residents have been bracing themselves for a cold snap.
The Met Office is predicting snow for many parts of the eastern region and authorities covering the Tendring district have been getting ready.
Essex County Council has a snow plan for such situations. If the temperature is forecast to hit a certain low, gritters are automatically sent out to Tendring's primary roads to make them safe.
Paul Leaman, director of modernisation and service delivery, said: "We took a long, hard look at the way we deal with winter weather after last year's snow and ice brought much of Essex to a standstill."
