Southend's new 2004 tourism guide has a minimalist look.

Gone are the days of crowded front covers showing every new attraction the town has to offer.
The new guide pictures a stick of rock, cut through the middle to reveal the words "fun, entertainment, culture".
It is a complete departure from previous guides, many of which have won national awards. The new guide was launched at a ceremony held in the controversial and award-winning pier entrance, which is equally modern in its design.
Tony North, Southend's executive councillor for tourism, said tourism was an important industry for Southend and vital for its economic health. He praised all the partners from across the leisure industry who had worked with the council over the year.
