Halstead Town striker Simon Atangana is making a 3,200-mile round trip in a bid to become a professional footballer again.
The 25-year-old former Colchester United forward is having trials in Turkey with Istanbulspor.
The club, which holds a mid-table position in the Turkish top-flight, has recently changed its manager and Atangana is hoping to impress.
"At his age, Simon realises that it is increasingly unlikely that he will win a professional contract in England," said Halstead assistant-boss Andy Clark.
"He's had a bit of a fall playing for Dundee, then going to Port Vale and Colchester and ending up with us. But he's had trials in France and now he's gone to Turkey to try and fulfil his ambition."
