Views on life in South Woodham Ferrers will still be heard by councillors despite the end of the town forum.
Chairman of Chelmsford Council Ian Roberts said councillors thought the group had lacked effectiveness because it had no budget or decision-making powers but residents' opinions were still welcome. Following the council's decision to end its support for the forum, town councillors have chosen not to carry it on.
Mr Roberts said: "I believe the best way to achieve some of the aspirations for the residents is for the town council to co-ordinate matters through its current committee structure rather than through a separate forum which has no statutory authority or spending power."
He added that as the forum had duplicated a lot of the work done by other groups in the town, the energies of those involved would be more usefully channelled through the council.
