Darren Palmer has his sights set on clinching a season's racing in the Elf Clio Renaultsport Cup next season.
Palmer, from Hockley, has come through two rounds of qualifying for next year's series and now faces the third and final qualifying round at the Elvington Airfield circuit in Yorkshire.
The would-be racer will face tough competition from other hopefuls bidding for a place among the 50 drivers to be invited for the pre-finals next month.
"I think I've definitely got what it takes to become a racing driver," said Palmer. "As I've made it through rounds one and two, I'm confident I can progress to the finals."
The two pre-finals take place at Elvington on February 19 and 20, with the final at Yorkshire's Croft Circuit on February 27.
The winning driver receives a fully-funded season competiting in the Elf Clio Renaultsport Cup worth £85,000.
