Delays affecting motorists passing through Bradwell look set to continue according to a council spokesperson.
Since last Thursday the work, carried out on the Coggeshall-bound side of the A120 road, had been causing extensive congestion throughout the day.
And further, work which began today, is due to last until Friday, January 31. Isolated patching will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
During the morning and evening rush hour last week motorists had to endure queues of up to 45 minutes over three miles at times either side of the work between The Swan Inn pub and the exit of Bradwell towards Braintree and Bocking.
The spokesperson for Essex County Council said: "It was routine maintenance work because numerous pot holes had appeared in the road."
